CISRS extends its heartfelt congratulations to Bishop Reuben Mark
CISRS extends its heartfelt congratulations to Bishop Reuben Mark, who has been elected as the new moderator of the Church of South India (CSI).
The election took place during a significant session on July 21, 2025, in Chennai. The CSI Synod convened for a special meeting centered on the profound theme of ‘Pilgrimage of Justice, Reconciliation, and Unity.’
This event marks a pivotal moment in the storied history of the Church of South India, which serves as a beacon of diverse Christian traditions united in service and commitment to the Gospel.
The election of Rev. Reuben Mark, the officiating Bishop of the CSI Medak Diocese, is seen as a promising step toward revitalizing the church during these turbulent times. His leadership is anticipated to usher in a new era of hope and renewal for the CSI, a communion that has faced numerous challenges but retains its spirit of unity and purpose.
Dr. Packiam T. Samuel, Chairperson of CISRS, expressed his warm congratulations, stating, “Your election is a testimony to the confidence bestowed upon you by the Synod and its leadership, as well as by the faithful congregation throughout the diverse dioceses and ministries.” He emphasized that this moment reflects not only Bishop Mark’s theological depth and spiritual maturity but also his proven track record of compassionate service, wise administrative skills, and faithful leadership.
As the Church grapples with complex challenges—ranging from moral and spiritual disillusionment to pervasive social injustices—Bishop Reuben Mark’s role as Moderator assumes unprecedented significance. Dr. Samuel continued, “We pray that God empowers you with discernment and strength to uphold the principles of truth, transparency, justice, and peace both within the CSI and in the broader community. May your leadership be characterized by a Christ-like spirit that fosters unity, healing, and constructive change.”
The call to serve as Moderator also embodies a commitment to servant leadership—one that entails attentively heeding the voices of the marginalized, nurturing the spiritual vitality of the Church, and inspiring future generations of leaders. As Bishop Mark embraces this sacred responsibility, it is hoped that he will be guided by the Holy Spirit, uplifted by the prayers of the faithful, and supported by a team that shares his vision of a renewed and reformed Church.
CISRS uplifts its prayers for his ministry, aspiring that his tenure as Moderator will incite transformation, clarity of purpose, and, most importantly, an ever-deepening love for Christ and His mission in the world.
